My Mothers Closet
Back in September of 2016, I lost my mother due to complications due to incurable breast cancer. In december going through her belongings wasn't easy. I could see her clothes and jewelry and could vividly remember a day were she was wearing that band shirt, or an event were she wore those heels I held in my hands. Most of us think, yea my parents clothing is out dated or not fashionable. Looking through her clothing, I realized, wow, this piece is super cool, or how come she never really wore this? I found this awesome leather/suede jacket from the 70's/80's I'm like "How come I've never stole this for a shoot? or hell just to wear even? this is super cool!"
The Light bulb went off.
Why don't I model some of my mothers clothing, shoes and jewelry and style them into fashionable outfits? So I did! With the help of Ted Sandilands we brought light to the clothing that collected dust, maybe have seen better days, or were loved so much it shows.
Present to you, .......My Mom's Closet.
All clothing and jewelry and shoes belonged to my mother. This blouse at first I remember thinking it was ugly or not fashionable years ago, when rummaging through your closet for shoes. When styled right, I love it. It has lace on the collar and down the front where the pearl accent buttons meet. This flowy Pencil skirt, my mother loved and it was a go to skirt for all formal occasions. I can see why, its comfortable and makes your legs look amazing. Yes, those are tan heeled clogs, My mother who claimed to have despised the 70's, could not give up on this fashion. She owned several styles of clogs, from actual wooden platform to "knock off" plastic platforms. They add a to this simple chic look, making it more casual but still feminine.
Oh boy, and this suede/real leather jacket, has been hiding through the decades. It made is debut for the first time in years, I can tell. A little stiff, I managed to model this gem. It is equipped with shoulder pads, gotta have those hahahaha. It had double buttons on the front, you can wear it opened or closed, adding definition to the waist. You gotta balance out the line backer shoulders. Overall the fringe is super killer and would make anyone look like a badass from the 70's. Get it mom.....haha.
I fell in love with this velvet number when I seen it. The criss cross collar with small keyhole front is simple and sexy. Gives a great chance to showcase a stunning necklace. The deep magenta color is an amazing color, matches great with a magenta lip color. The pencil skirt hugs the hips nicely, showing off my booty. My best Ass-set. ( Bah dun tiss!) Unfortunately the zippers are just for show, I already tried. Add some flashy jewelry your made in the shade. Mixes 90's fashion with modern day fashion, making it an outfit us 90's girls adore.
Oh and the best for last! I found this sheer burgundy cover up. Meant for swimwear, but I found it a fashionable asset for any lingerie outfit or something casual to throw over a long tank top & leggings. The bra and undies were her's too ( don't worry the under-roo's were brand new with tags, I love my mom, but I'm not gonna wear her already worn unmentionables.) Sophisticated with a vintage hair do, I felt like a queen in those heels and robe walking around the studio. The fantastic heels were one of my moms favorites. They have criss crossing straps accented with black glitter to give them a subtle flair. With a 4 inch heel, they do the job wither its for business, formal or just to be sexy. The necklace and bracelet set add elegance to the whole ensemble. My mom wanted some fancy looking quote "bling" haha, but didn't wanna spend a lot for a one day formal event. So I picked these up for her, then eventually kept borrowing them myself for events I had to dress up for as well.
My mother was a huge support to my modeling. A super awesome young spirited, tattooed pierced up, out going, metal head with a huge heart. Her amazing personality and spirit lives on in all the work I do as an artist and I try to keep that spirit going on through me. As always thank you for reading these sedimental posts and your continued support of my art. Much love <3
